Walgreen’s Contract Cancelled By California Over Abortion Fallout

(RoyalPatriot.com )- According to a report, California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has decided not to extend a 54 million dollar contract with Walgreens due to the company’s policy of preventing the sale of abortion medication in 21 states.

Newsom’s administration said it would not renew a multimillion-dollar deal with Walgreens and the California correctional and rehabilitative facilities for prescriptions.  Instead, the state will look into alternative possibilities for providing the same services.

After receiving letters from state Attorneys General last month, Walgreens decided not to sell mifepristone, the first tablet in a 2-step abortion protocol. This decision affected 21 states, reports show.

The Attorneys General have also warned other major retailers not to sell abortion drugs and threatened legal action against pharmacies that sold them in their jurisdictions. They argue the Biden administration incorrectly interpreted the rules governing the distribution and dispensing of such medications.

According to the NIH, RU-486, or mifepristone, is a drug used to induce a medical abortion and treat a miscarriage in the first trimester.

Fetal death, angioedema, toxic epidermal necrolysis, allergic responses, and teratogenesis are all examples of severe reactions to the drug.

Walgreens spokesman Fraser Engerman said that the business would only sell in states where it is allowed to do so, a statement reveals.

Walgreens is in the same position as every other retail pharmacy, and no other pharmacies have indicated that they will handle this contract differently. Walgreens’ official stance has consistently been that they would distribute Mifepristone in states where it is lawful,  including California, once they have FDA approval.

According to reports, it is now legal for women to get an abortion pill prescription via telemedicine since the FDA has formally eliminated the in-person restriction from its regulation.

With minimal guarantees that a federal statute addressing the matter won’t be used to punish anyone criminally for such shipments, Biden’s DOJ permitted the U.S. Postal Service to carry abortive medicines to jurisdictions with abortion restrictions or bans.
