Vigilante James Spencer III, 22, orchestrated an internet sting operation involving 37-year-old registered offender Sean Connery Showers.
Spencer concocted the sting where he fooled Showers by pretending to be a kid. They planned a hook-up meeting. The rendezvous culminated with Showers being shot and killed.
According to the Houston Police Department, the event occurred on May 29, 2023.
Subsequent investigations established that Spencer was the assailant who opened fire on Sean Connery Showers as he was approached by a car in the wee hours of the morning. The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force members had little trouble capturing the shooter.
Spencer was compelled to arrange the sting because he felt the government was ignoring the problem of child predators. At James Spencer III’s court appearance, a judge reportedly ruled that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the murder accusation.
The 37-year-old Showers was found dead in a ditch in the 900 block of Northwood Street by an early riser.
Around 3:50 a.m., a car was seen on surveillance tape stopping for a second and then opening fire in rapid succession before speeding away.
Submerged beneath his body, Shower’s phone revealed crucial details regarding the chain of events that precipitated his untimely demise. Authorities discovered that Showers had planned to meet someone at Montie Beach Park through a social networking app.
The 179th District Court main prosecutor, Rehman Merchant, said that Showers’ interactions with his attacker, Spencer III, were pornographically charged. Presumably, Spencer was posing as a minor. Reports from KPRC indicate that during the encounter, Showers was shot multiple times. The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was able to apprehend Spencer III.
Showers had prior predatory crimes that resulted in a 30-month jail term. Failure to comply with offender registration rules resulted in an additional two-year sentence.
