(RoyalPatriot.com )- President Joe Biden is taking a decidedly different approach to Israel.
As tensions have escalated in recent weeks between Israelis and Palestinians, the White House continues to push a solution that works both for both states.
This week, Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said plans to evict Palestinians from a neighborhood in east Jerusalem would work “against” the interests of both Israel and the U.S. as they work to find a solution to the conflict. She further condemned “extremism that has inflicted violence on both communities.”
Psaki further said:
“[Biden’s] team is communicating a clear and consistent message in support of de-escalation. That is our primary focus. The president’s support for Israel’s security, for its legitimate right to defend itself and its people is fundamental and will never waiver.”
Tensions escalated between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police about the plans for eviction. In addition, Hamas — the militant group that rules the Gaza Strip — gave Israel a deadline to withdraw all security forces from the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
That site is the third holiest site in all of Islam, and is also the holiest site of Judaism. In Judaism, it’s referred to as the Temple Mount.
Current rules dictate that tourists are allowed to visit the holy site. However, only Muslims are allowed to pray at the site. In recent years, though, Jews have been escorted by police to the site and have held prayer services there.
Israelis have said all worshippers should be allowed to pray at the site, but to this point, the Palestinians have refused to allow that to happen.
When that deadline passed without the withdraw of security forces, Hamas fired 600 rockets into Israel, which set off air raid sirens.
The response from Israel was airstrikes on Gaza that killed 28 people, which included 10 children, as the Wall Street Journal reported. Israel’s military officials said three Israelis were killed by the rockets fired by Hamas. They also said they were investigating other deaths of children who were killed when some of the rockets exploded before they crossed into Israel.
During this whole thing, Psaki condemned the Hamas rocket attacks, but also was quick to note the rights Palestinians have that are equal to those of Israelis. She said:
“We believe Palestinians and Israelis deserve equal measures of freedom, security, dignity and prosperity. And U.S. officials in recent weeks have spoken candidly with Israeli officials about how evictions of Palestinian families who have lived for years, sometimes decades in their homes and of demolitions of these homes work against our common interests in achieving a solution to the conflict in the coming days, as Muslims gather with family and friends to celebrate Eid and Dawn together to market the beginning of Shabbat, let us affirm that all people of faith deserve to enjoy these important celebrations without fear of violence.”
Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, criticized Biden’s approach to Israel, saying:
“When I was in office, we were known as the Peace Presidency, because Israel’s adversaries knew that the United States stood strongly with Israel and there would be swift retribution if Israel was attacked. Under Biden, the world is getting more violent and more unstable because Biden’s weakness, and lack of support for Israel is leading to new attacks on our allies.”
