A 20-year-old would-be assassin named Thomas Crooks was gunned down at a Donald Trump event in Pennsylvania by snipers.
Crooks asked his boss to give him the day off and told him he had to do something before going to the Trump rally.
Before killing Crooks, a Secret Service agent at the gathering made sure that he would be the last person he saw. He “neutralized” the suspect within seconds of Crooks firing his shots.
The deranged Crooks killed Corey Comperatore, the ex-fire Chief in Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania. The gunman also seriously hurt two others, and hit Trump in the right ear after climbing a building 147 yards away.
People screaming from the base of the building can be heard in the background as Crooks looks closely through the sights of his father’s AR-style gun and fires at the crowd. In an alarming video, Crooks is shown lying dead on the roof while people on the ground gasp in shock.
On Tuesday, it came to light that the killer got into the rally’s security area three hours before he attacked. At 3 p.m., he set off a metal detector while trying to get into the site. He was then caught with a rangefinder, which is a gun sight that hunters and marksmen use to get ready to shoot from a distance. The security guards let him in and watched him until he left the secure area a short time later.
Snipers from the police were stationed in the same AGR International building that Crooks chose to shoot from. They saw him outside three times in the minutes before the attack. Crooks showed up a third time, this time wearing a backpack, and walked to the back of the building without being seen.
Former President Trump had just turned his head slightly to look at a chart that was shown on a jumbotron. That slight head movement, just as the bullet was zipping toward his head, most likely saved his life.
Kyle Gass of the rock band Tenacious D said on stage in Australia that his birthday wish is that the shooter doesn’t miss the next time.
