Donald Trump said he is looking forward to debating Kamala Harris because it will allow him to “expose” her to the American people. Speaking to reporters, the former President said he enjoys debates because they permit the public to see how a person responds under pressure and shines a light on their ideas. He insisted that if Harris wins the Presidency, she will continue Joe Biden’s open border policies and “destroy” America, and he wants to hold her feet to the fire on that issue.
On immigration, Trump repeated his claim that Democrats want to reshape the electoral landscape by allowing illegal immigrants to vote. The former President, however, conceded that Harris may surprise him and perform well at the ballot box in November. “It’s a crazy world out there,” he declared.
During her first rally as presumptive Democratic nominee, Vice President Harris told a cheering Wisconsin crowd that she has experience dealing with fraudsters and abusers of women, adding, “I know Donald Trump’s type.” Analysts say the remarks indicate Harris’s plan of attack and suggest she will target the former President’s character and focus on her own record as a prosecutor who spent the early part of her career putting criminals in prison.
Conservative commentators have lashed out at Harris and labeled her a “DEI pick” who has succeeded in politics solely because of her gender and race. However, Harris’s supporters have hit back, saying she is an experienced public official and attorney who won several elected posts in her native California.
Democratic strategist Karen Finney called the accusations “disgusting and inappropriate” and cautioned that the approach may backfire on Republicans. “The country is changing,” she said.
In a written statement to the press, Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt refocused criticism on policy and said the former President will make sure everyone knows that a vote for Harris is a vote for crime, inflation, global war, and open borders.
