Trump’s Vision for a Fortified America
In a bold move to enhance national security, President Donald Trump has proposed a next-generation missile defense shield for the United States. This ambitious project, drawing inspiration from Israel’s Iron Dome system, aims to create a protective barrier against an array of missile threats. The initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to prioritize military excellence and readiness, addressing evolving global challenges.
“By next term we will build a great Iron Dome over our country. We deserve a dome. It’s a missile defense shield, and it’ll all be made in America,” President Trump said.
An Executive Order, issued by President Trump, outlines a comprehensive approach to military preparedness. It emphasizes the Armed Forces’ primary mission: protecting the American people and maintaining a lethal and effective fighting force.
Another executive order would begin the process of creating a “next generation” missile defense shield to protect the U.S. against ballistic missiles and other long-range attacks.

Addressing Emerging Threats
The proposed missile defense system is designed to counter a wide range of threats, including long-range ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and cruise missiles. The expanded scope reflects the evolving nature of global security challenges, particularly from nations like Russia, China, and North Korea, which have made significant advancements in missile technology.
Trump’s vision echoes the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) proposed by President Ronald Reagan, albeit with modern technological capabilities. The new plan leverages advancements in satellite-based sensors and space-based interception technologies, aiming to create a more robust and effective defense system.
Implementation and International Cooperation
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been tasked with spearheading the development of the project. His responsibilities include crafting “a reference architecture, capabilities-based requirements, and an implementation plan for the next-generation missile defense shield.”
A key aspect of the plan is its emphasis on international collaboration. The Executive Order directs efforts to “increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation on missile defense technology development, capabilities, and operations,” as stated by President Trump.
Alongside the missile defense initiative, the Executive Order introduces significant changes to military policy. It reaffirms longstanding Department of Defense (DoD) policies requiring service members to be “free of medical conditions or physical defects that may reasonably be expected to require excessive time lost from duty for necessary treatment or hospitalization.” It also bars individuals with gender dysphoria, and reinstates those dismissed for refusing the Covid vaccine.
