(TheLibertyRevolution.Com)- President Donald Trump made the surprising, but fantastic, prediction last week that a coronavirus vaccine will be developed by the end of the year. Trump made the comments during an extensive and wide-ranging interview on Fox News about the ongoing global pandemic and the fight against the Chinese coronavirus.
“We think we will have a vaccine by the end of this year,” Trump said.
The president explained that doctors would probably advise him against making the prediction, but that he truly believes it based on the information given to him by experts in the White House.
“I’ll say what I think,” Trump said.
He’s not being overly optimistic, either. Even Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and one of the highest-profile members of the White House Coronavirus task Force made a similar prediction last week. During an interview with Savannah Guthrie on TODAY, Fauci explained that a vaccine could be developed as soon as January 2021 – not much longer than Trump’s prediction of the end of 2020.
In the meantime, President Trump said that drugs like remdesivir will help treat patients struggling to recover from the virus. The drug, which the president has touted as a possible treatment for some time, was very recently approved by the FDA for use on coronavirus patients. The news came after media outlets slammed the president for endorsing it, and after failed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris called him a “drug pusher.”
The president said that the drug is difficult to produce quickly, but that the current supply of the medication can treat more than a hundred thousand people right now. Millions of doses of the drug have already been donated by Gilead Sciences, the company currently developing the drug. CEO Daniel O’Day committed to working with the federal government to distribute the medication across the country to help people most in need.
President Trump also said during the interview that he has received several calls from people in just the few days prior to the interview claiming that the drug hydroxychloroquine cured them.
“Here’s what we’ve been reduced to in this country,” he said. “The Democrats, the radical left…would rather see people not get well because they think I’m going to get credit if hydroxychloroquine works.”
Is he wrong?
