Donald Trump has come up with new nicknames for Kamala Harris. Within 24 hours, he called the Vice President “Kamabla” and “Kamala Crash” on his Truth Social media account. Trump used the “Kamabla” title when he accused Harris of being afraid to debate him on Fox News and said she was the “worst VP.”
The accusation that Harris is afraid to debate him was met with some derision, given that Trump pulled out of the ABC debate previously agreed with President Biden. He has likewise stated that he would not participate in a debate with the Vice President because he was leading in the polls, and everybody already knows him. Days after those remarks, he announced that he had negotiated with Fox to host a new debate, prompting the Harris camp to accuse him of hoping that Fox would “bail him out.”
Meanwhile, new polling shows that Harris is leading Trump nationally and has forged ahead in several battleground states. A CBS/YouGov survey published on August 4 showed Harris one point ahead nationally, at 50% to Trump’s 49%. When third-party candidates were included, Harris extended her lead to 2%. Additionally, a Silver Bulletin poll shows a lead for the Vice President in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, though these leads are slim.
For instance, in Pennsylvania, the Vice President is ahead by 45.3% to Trump’s 44.8%. In Wisconsin, Harris leads by 46% to 44.8%, and in Michigan, by 45.2% to 42.8%.
Vice President Harris has since announced her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Mr. Walz is generally admired in his own state, with an approval rating hovering around 55%. On the national stage, figures show he is less known than other potential Harris running mates. An ABC/Ipsos poll revealed that 57% hadn’t heard of Walz, and in another survey, that figure is as high as 71%. Donald Trump’s running mate is now more well known across America, but with a disapproval rate of 43%.
Harris and Walz made their first appearance together at a rally in Philadelphia, where Mr. Walz said Harris had brought “joy” to the Presidential election.
