Trump and Musk Collaborate to Deploy Starlink Internet in Hurricane Helene Affected Areas

During an event held in Valdosta, Georgia, former President Donald Trump disclosed that he has coordinated with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to deploy Starlink satellite internet in regions most affected by Hurricane Helene. Recognizing the enormity of the devastation, particularly in Georgia and North Carolina where communication has been severely disrupted, Trump outlined that Musk’s involvement is a critical step towards restoring connectivity.

Trump emphasized the flood’s catastrophic impact, affirmed his commitment to helping affected families, and highlighted the urgency of the situation. Praising Musk’s reliability, Trump assured continuous support and prayers as the recovery unfolds. Trump underscored the critical need for communication services in recovery efforts.

“To every family that’s been displaced here in Georgia and in North Carolina, which has really been hit. We’re going there also. They don’t have communication, they don’t have anything right now,” Trump said.

Musk’s Involvement and Starlink’s Role

SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, operates the Starlink satellite system, which promises internet access in remote and disrupted areas. Trump highlighted Musk’s commitment, stating, “I just spoke to Elon … we want to get Starlink hooked up because they have no communication whatsoever. Elon will always come through. We know that. We’re working on that getting them hooked up. We’re going to try and get the Starlink in there as soon as possible.”

FEMA has already deployed 40 Starlink satellite systems to aid communication and is shipping 140 more to affected areas. This underscores the critical role of private-public partnerships in disaster response. Despite Trump’s statements, the White House clarified that a partnership with Starlink was already established to restore communications.
