Trump Administration Slaps China With Tough Restrictions

( President Donald Trump is stepping up his battle to protect the United States from communist China, with his State Department announcing on Friday that they will impose more visa restriction on Chinese citizens who engaged in influence operations overseas.

The new restrictions will specifically apply to officials and members of the Chinese Communist Party who take part in influence campaigns or propaganda efforts on behalf of the United Front Work Department – the official government department that reports back to the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

The department is known to put pressure on organizations and people who publicly criticize the Chinese government for its various human rights abuses, including the Uigher concentration camps and abused in Tibet. Through the use of coercive tactics, officials from the department have released personal information about critics of the Chinese government, terrorizing their families and putting people in fear of their lives.

Pompeo described the damage done by Chinese officials who engage in these coercive tactics, and said that the new visa restrictions would demonstrate that “those responsible for actions that contravene the rules-based international order are not welcome in the United States.”

In a statement, Pompeo said that the Chinese Communist Party “has long sought to spread Marxist-Leninist ideology and exert its influence all over the world.”

“The CCP’s United Front Work Department funds and supports overseas organizations to spread propaganda and coerces and bullies those who would oppose Beijing’s policies,” he added.

Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, who is also the acting Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman, supported the measures in a joint statement with Democrat Virginia Senator Mark Warner.

“Beijing’s infiltration of U.S. society has been deliberate and insidious as they use every instrument of influence available to accelerate their rise at America’s expense,” he said. “Unfortunately, the United States’s challenge with China is not unique as Beijing seeks to infiltrate and subvert other nations around the world, including our allies.”

Pompeo said that he will continue to implement the new visa restrictions to send a message to China.

“The United States calls on the People’s Republic of China to end its use of coercion and intimidation tactics to suppress freedom of expression,” he said. “The United States will continue to review its authorities to respond to these concerns.”

Who wants to bet that China doesn’t care and won’t change?
