(RoyalPatriot.com )- On Wednesday, the Taliban called on all other Muslim nations to unify and recognize the terror group as the new, official government of Afghanistan.
Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the Taliban Prime Minister, called on Muslim nations to “take the lead” and officially recognize the Taliban as legitimate after overthrowing the democratically elected government in Afghanistan last year.
According to reports from the French media, Akhund claimed that the Taliban was looking for the recognition not to benefit the official in government, but to benefit the people of Afghanistan.
Curiously, the Taliban has had a difficult time being officially recognized even by some of the most extreme Muslim countries on the planet. Even the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has refused to officially recognize the Taliban, and that bloc contains Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
The fact that the OIC refuses to get on board, however, could be an indication that the Abraham Accords – the series of peace agreements signed by Islamic nations thanks to the work of the Trump administration – are strong and unlikely to collapse even during the Biden administration.
The Taliban’s call to be officially recognized also comes as the country faces an economic crisis. Following the collapse of the official government, the Taliban has been unable to maintain a functioning economy and, according to the United Nations, 22% of the country is living in near famine. A further 36% of the 38 million people living in Afghanistan are also experiencing food insecurity.
This is President Joe Biden’s legacy, people. Don’t forget it.
