(RoyalPatriot.com )- On Monday, Republican Senator Rand Paul blocked a quick vote on a House-passed bill designed intended to deliver $1 billion in funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. It comes after Democratic New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, attempted to set up an expedited vote with only two hours of debate on the contents of the bill.
It would have circumnavigated the expected three-day-long vote debate and vote process.
Menendez argued that there is “no conceivable reason” that anybody in the Senate, either Republican or Democrat, would want to stand in the way of the United States providing lifesaving defense to the people of Israel.
Maybe he should speak to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about that one. She did, after all, cry after she failed to stop the passing of the bill in the House.
Menendez said he urges his colleagues to pass the legislation as part of a bipartisan effort, but Senator Paul has something else in mind – and to be clear, he’s not opposing giving Israel financial support for its missile defense system.
Recently, Paul tried to alter the bill after it passed in the house to withdraw the massive $6 billion in funds expected to be given to Afghanistan. Democrats seem to be very keen to spend money – and for some reason, they want some of that cash to go to a territory controlled by Islamic extremist organization the Taliban.
Paul stated that he supports Israel and has previously voted for hundreds of millions of dollars to be given to the Iron Dome system, which protects Israel from missile attacks by Palestinian terrorists. He added, however, that the United States cannot be giving money it doesn’t have.
Menendez had blocked Paul’s attempt to alter the House bill, prompting Paul to reject Menendez’s attempt to expedite the vote.
Is Senator Paul the only Senator we have who won’t vote to spend money we don’t have?
