(RoyalPatriot.com )- Russian President Vladimir Putin is making preparations to transport and store nuclear weapons in Belarus in a move he likens to the actions of the United States storing their weapons in NATO countries, according to The Daily Wire.
The alliance between the two countries has caused some analysts to raise their eyebrows. In December, Belarus was positioning equipment and troops within the country after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko agreed to deploy troops as part of a joint regional force, according to The Daily Caller.
Lukashenko also permitted his country to be used as a staging ground before the invasion of Ukraine. The countries have claimed that the movement of troops was for military exercises.
But now Russia’s plans include nuclear weapons that are going to be ready in July. Putin says that this measure is in response to Lukashenko’s request to counter NATO and the United Kingdom’s decision to send armor-piercing rounds with depleted Uranium to Ukraine.
Putin said that this measure is nothing new because the U.S. has been doing what he is doing for decades. He said that he will be in charge of the weapons. He assured that he will do what the U.S. is doing but will not violate the international agreement of non-proliferation.
In response to Putin, Ukraine has called an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, “demanding” that action be taken. The United States, however, does not reportedly believe that Russia will follow through with a nuclear strike. U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that they are monitoring Putin’s actions and there is currently no reason to believe that Russia will do such a thing.
It remains unknown how many weapons Russia is planning to place in Belarus, but the entire nuclear arsenal of the country is around 2,000 bombs.
