(RoyalPatriot.com )- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday that he has strongly encouraged Pope Francis to come to his country and apologize for a recent scandal about Catholic church-run boarding schools where hundreds of unmarked graves were recently discovered.
Trudeau said that Canadians are both ashamed and horrified by the government’s policy of forcing indigenous children in Canada to attend the church-run schools.
It comes after indigenous leaders in Canada said last week that the remains of more than 600 people were discovered at the Marieval Indian Residential School which was open between 1899 and 1997 in Saskatchewan. The remains of a further 215 people were also discovered at a school in British Columbia.
Newsmax explains how up until the 1970s, over 150,000 indigenous children in Canada were made to attend Christian schools that were funded by the state and run by the Roman Catholic church. It was part of an effort to integrate indigenous children into Western society and culture.
Trudeau, who has a long history of virtue signaling and siding with left-wing radicals, urged the Pope to come to Canada to apologize, despite the current Pope not being responsible for what occurred. He revealed that he had spoken directly to Pope Francis to stress how important such a trip would be, and said he knows the leadership of the Catholic church is “actively engaged” in what steps will be taken next.
Pope Francis has already expressed the deep pain experienced by the Church after the news about the schools was revealed but hasn’t issued an apology.
It’s one of a number of scandals connected to the Catholic Church in recent years. Famously, it was discovered that Catholic schools and institutions all over the world were rampant with the sexual abuse of children.
