Ohio Republican Apologizes for Endorsing Idea of Civil War at Rally

An Ohio Republican state senator was forced to apologize last week after suggesting that “it would take a civil war to save the country” if Donald Trump did not win the election in November during a campaign rally featuring Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance.

State Senator George Lang was one of the speakers at Vance’s first solo campaign event on June 22 at the Ohio Senator’s former Middletown high school.

Lang told the crowd that Trump and Vance were the last chance the American people had to “save the country.” He warned that if Republicans lose in November, it would “take a civil war to save the country” but assured the crowd that the country would be saved.

After a video of Lang’s remarks was posted on X by Kamala Harris’ campaign account, the Ohio Republican released a statement apologizing for “the divisive remark,” saying it did not reflect his views.

Lang explained that he had gotten caught up “in the excitement of the moment” and said that given the recent attempt on Donald Trump’s life, everyone, including him, should be “mindful of what is said at political events.”

During his campaign rallies in Middletown and Radford, Virginia last Monday, Vance sought to appeal to the voters in middle America forgotten by the Biden administration.

He hammered the newly designated Democrat nominee Kamala Harris over the damage the Biden administration has done to working-class voters, making it clear that as Biden’s vice president, Harris was also responsible for the record inflation, rising consumer prices, and unprecedented illegal immigration that have plagued the country over the past four years.

Vance also drew contrasts between his background and that of Harris, noting that he served in the Marines and was a small business owner during the 20 years Harris was receiving a government paycheck.
