The Kremlin released a video on August 27 that appeared to glamorize new bomb shelters built in Sochi’s resort at the Black Sea. The video shows two young female models wearing dresses and walking into the shelter while talking to each other in a friendly way. None of the models have been identified so far.
Independent Russian journalists said on their Telegram channels that the video sends “a terrible message” as it tries to normalize a hypothetic scenario in which Russian cities could be bombed the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Some of them explained that numerous semiologists and political analysts who spoke anonymously claimed that these messages can easily demoralize people and the military. They added that the videos could even cause chaos among the general population, which could spark protests and even destabilize the unity of the Russian Armed Forces.
The video was published Russia’s presence in the Kursk region entered its third week, in a move that surprised many military experts in the West. While the Russian military was gaining more territories in Ukraine, some media outlets speculated that Ukrainian forces suddenly entered Russia and took 93 villages in the regions of Belgorod and Kursk. The situation was eventually confirmed by authorities of the two countries, with analysts explaining that what Ukraine did was a risky move whose main goal was to force the Kremlin to move the Russian forces from the newly occupied territories in Ukraine back to Russia.
Independent investigations have revealed that Russian authorities have been constructing some bomb shelters not only in the western Russian city but also in Crimea, which the Kremlin annexed to Russia by force in 2014. The Russian Armed Forces have responded to the Ukrainian invasion of the Belgorod and Kursk regions by firing hundreds of drones and missiles all across Ukraine.
Zelensky said that the vast majority of the attacks were neutralized before they reached their targets by F-16 jets that Western nations gave to the Ukrainian forces as part of their military aid. However, he said there were five innocent people killed in the Russian attack, and that dozens of homes were destroyed.
The Ukrainian leader also asked for the United States and Europe to boost their support so Ukraine can keep resisting.
How long can this possibly go on for?
