(RoyalPatriot.com )- Friday, NBC News retracted a report that claimed Paul Pelosi didn’t let on that he was in danger when the police showed up at his home on October 28 just before 42-year-old David DePape struck him with a hammer.
The now-deleted segment from NBC reporter Miguel Almaguer aired during the Today Show Friday morning.
In his report, Almaguer cited anonymous sources who claimed Pelosi answered the door for police responding to a 911 call but the officers were “seemingly unaware they had been called to the home of the Speaker of the House.”
Almaguer reported that sources told him that Paul Pelosi didn’t “declare an emergency” or attempt to leave the house when police arrived. Instead, he walked several feet back toward DePape.
The report, which quickly went viral on Twitter and was promptly picked up by other outlets, contradicted the court documents filed in DePape’s case. Several news outlets cast the report as a conspiracy theory while prominent social media users called out the contradictions.
Within a matter of hours, NBC News retracted the story.
The official Today Show Twitter account deleted the video of the segment. It was also removed from the Today Show website and an editor’s note was added to the page explaining that the report “should not have aired because it did not meet NBC News reporting standards.”
According to court filings, Paul Pelosi “nervously but calmly greeted” police in the dimly-lit foyer where both men stood. When an officer asked what was going on, DePape allegedly responded “everything’s good” before a flashlight revealed he was holding a hammer in one hand and Pelosi’s arm in the other. Court documents said Pelosi had his hand over the top of the hammer’s handle.
And while the video was quickly retracted, some Twitter users had already captured the video and reposted on Twitter:
