(RoyalPatriot.com )- In her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Meghan Markle claimed she was an “only child,” but she refuted that claim this week.
In a court document submitted on Monday concerning Samantha Markle’s defamation action, the Duchess of Sussex’s legal team claimed that Meghan made a “subjective” comment regarding how she felt about her upbringing.
Meghan’s legal team wrote in the document that her response to the inquiry, “I ‘grew up as an only child,’ was not meant to declare that she had no genetic siblings or half-siblings. It was instead a textbook illustration of a subjective assertion about the author’s youth.
Samantha Markle was alleged to have “ignored the context” of Winfrey’s query, which concerned Meghan’s “connection” with her half-sister, who is 17 years older than she is and was reared in a different household.
It said that her sister’s claim that she can refute Meghan’s claim that she was raised as an only child is false. It is “intrinsically indefensible and hard to think of a more individualized and individual experience than how one perceives their upbringing.”
In March, Samantha Markle filed a lawsuit against Meghan for $75,000, alleging that her claim that she “grew up as an only child” was defamatory because it painted her half-sister as an “opportunist of the worst sort.” The latter intended to profit from the fact that they were related to a famous person.
According to Cosmopolitan, she also claims that a biography titled “Finding Freedom” that Meghan or Prince Harry did not author has resulted in her experiencing “humiliation, shame, and contempt on a worldwide scale.”
The biography’s authors, Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie said that the Sussexes had nothing to do with the book.
It’s possible that her communications director had an off-the-record conversation with the writers, but Meghan’s attorneys claimed in a document that it doesn’t matter since “Meghan is not responsible for the remarks because she did not make them. That’s how easy it is.”
When the lawsuit was initially filed, Meghan’s lawyer stated to TMZ that this illogical and ridiculous action is merely a repetition of a troubling pattern of conduct. It will receive the bare minimum of our attention, which is all it needs.
