The state of politics within the United States continues to become more divided with each passing way. Indeed, since the 2016 election of Donald Trump, a billionaire businessman from New York City to the presidency, the nature of politics has changed irrevocably. The mainstream media on both sides of the political aisle, whether conservative or liberal in leaning, has further exacerbated political tensions in the country, causing many individuals to move further to the left or the right. Even the incumbent president Joe Biden, who defeated Trump in a very close election in the year 2020, has done little to bring the nation together. Biden had promised to be a unifying figure and had called for “healing” after winning the election. Unfortunately, though, the 46th president has done a poor job unifying people. In the fall of 2022, Biden called people who supported the former 45th president (Trump) “MAGA extremists” and even declared White Supremacy the biggest threat to America.
This announcement came during a time in which the nation has been infiltrated with over 8 million illegal migrants in 5 years and inflation continues to crush the working class. Many have critiqued the president, claiming it to be a poor strategy and a quite unprecedented occurrence to seemingly make statements that ostracize half the country.
Sadly, it appears that politics has entered every area of American life, from reality-tv, to sports events and leagues, to music, and even comedy. Recently, a progressive Democrat comedian Chelsea Handler slammed the Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, calling him a misogynist. Butker had made a graduation speech and talked about his traditional Christian values and the value of motherhood. He encouraged the female graduates of Benedictine college not to discard the importance of being a homemaker. In a vulgar rant riddled with expletives, Handler made vitriolic comments full of hate towards Butker. Regardless, Conservatives have long argued America’s been in moral decline.
