Kate Winslet Says She Refused to Cover Body Rolls After Crew Asked

Titanic star Kate Winslet said she refused to cover up her “belly rolls” during recent filming. The 48-year-old Oscar winner explained that a crew member asked her to disguise or cover her body during the film for her latest movie; she replied, “So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life!”

The actress is well-known for her refusal to chase perfection and is happy to appear in public and on film as her natural self. She is proud of showing her age, saying it signifies life experience. “It is my life on my face, and it wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up,” she said.

In an interview following a love scene in her 2021 film Mare of Easttown, the British actress said the world is “starved” of images of authentic, unfiltered, and realistic women’s bodies. She even refused to approve movie posters because her picture was “retouched,” she demanded that she be presented as her natural self.

Ms. Winslet has spoken for years about the pressure on actors to look perfect, and as she heads toward her 50th birthday next year, nothing has changed. She still insists that good health is the key to looking good and advocates a healthy diet and plenty of sleep. Her top tip is water, which she maintains is the skin’s best friend. “Water, water, water. Keep the body hydrated, and the skin will follow suit,” she said.

The popular actress, who was born in England in 1975, is best known for her performance as Rose in the smash hit Titanic, where she played opposite her close friend Leonardo DiCaprio. The relatively unknown British star was chosen for the part above many of Hollywood’s leading ladies, including Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Nicole Kidman, who were all said to be in the running.

Winslet comes from a relatively modest background, and when she won her fifth Oscar nomination, she recalls dancing around her house and thinking, “This wasn’t supposed to happen to somebody like me. I’m not the pedigree kid. I’m not classically trained. I didn’t come from the fancy home.”
