(RoyalPatriot.com )- President Joe Biden isn’t having a very good few weeks, and his vice president isn’t making things any easier on him.
Earlier this week, Vice President Kamala Harris was talking to students at George Mason University. During that talk, she responded to a student’s comment that accused Israel of “ethnic genocide” in a very odd manner.
The student’s comments were:
“You brought up how the power of the people and demonstrations and organizing is very valuable in America, but I see that over the summer there have been protests and demonstrations in astronomical numbers standing with Palestine. But then just a few days ago there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because it’s ethnic genocide and displacement of people, the same that happened in America, and I’m sure you’re aware of this.”
Harris tried to placate the student, but she botched it completely. She said directly to the student:
“This is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth should not be suppressed, and it must be heard.”
Conservatives as well as the press in Israel jumped all over Harris’ comments. The Jerusalem Post published a story in which Israel Hayom wrote:
“Harris praises student for expressing ‘your truth’ after anti-Israel rant.”
Stateside, Josh Hawley, the Republican senator from Missouri, went off on Harris as well. In sharing a video of Harris’ comments to the student that was posted by the Republican National Committee, Hawley tweeted:
“Kamala Harris doesn’t have time to go to the border, but she apparently has plenty of time to encourage anti-Israel, anti-Semitic falsehoods.”
Harris tried to save herself following the incident. Her office ended up releasing a statement that read she has been “unwavering in her commitment to Israel and to Israel’s security.” The statement also said Harris “strongly disagrees with the student’s characterization of Israel.”
Politico then reported that Harris was trying to mend relationships with members of her own party who are pro-Israel. The vice president’s office also has tried to get in touch with members of the Anti-Defamation League and various Jewish groups.
The CEO of the ADL, Jonathan Greenblatt, took to Twitter to write:
“Just spoke with @VP office. Glad to hear her confirm she is proud of her record supporting #Israel, and knows claim it is committing ‘ethnic genocide’ is patently false. Looking fwd to a clearing of the record so there’s no ambiguity that what that student said was hateful/wrong.”
A statement also came from the White House in defense of the vice president. Symone Sanders, a spokesperson for Harris, said “throughout her career, the Vice President has been unwavering in her commitment to Israel and Israel’s security.
“While visiting George Mason University to discuss voting rights, a student voiced a personal opinion during a political science class. The Vice President strongly disagrees with the student’s characterization of Israel.”
