(RoyalPatriot.com )- Nina Simone, the legendary “High Priestess of Soul” passed away in April 2003. But the battle over her estate was only just beginning. At the heart of that battle is Joe Biden’s own Vice President, Kamala Harris.
In a scathing Twitter thread posted over the weekend, Nina Simone’s granddaughter RéAnna Simone Kelly accused Harris of “taking away” the singer’s estate and handing it over “to white people.”
Kelly claims Harris’ actions, when she served as California’s Attorney General, left Kelly so poor that she considered taking up stripping in order to pay her bills. Worse still, Kelly claimed that after being “bullied” by Kamala Harris in court, Kelly’s mother, Nina Simone’s daughter, was so depressed she nearly committed suicide.
The singer’s daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, was named administrator for both her late mother’s estate and charitable trust. However, in 2013 she was accused of “breaching her fiduciary duty” after Kelly allegedly drained nearly $2 million from the accounts, $1.5 million of which was deposited into her personal company.
As a result, Kamala Harris sought to surcharge Lisa Simone Kelly nearly $6 million plus another $2.5 million in interest. In the end, Harris and Kelly reached a settlement where Kelly would relinquish her rights to her mother’s work as well as her title of administrator.
In her Twitter thread, RéAnna Simone Kelly raged that her family’s name was dragged in the media. The 22-year-old demanded that Kamala Harris be accountable for what she did to Kelly’s family.
Kelly demanded to know why Harris “separated my family” and why her grandmother’s estate is now in shambles. Kelly also claimed that her mother was put under a “gag order” which Kelly claims bars her mother from even saying she is Nina Simone’s daughter.
It also infuriated Kelly that, despite everything she said Kamala Harris put her family through, singer John Legend was permitted to sing a Nina Simone song at Joe Biden’s inauguration.
In response to her daughter’s tweet storm, Lisa Simone Kelly posted a video on Saturday expressing her support for her daughter, saying “She’s speaking her truth. She’s speaking the truth of our family.”
Currently, it is not clear who is now in charge of Nina Simone’s estate.
