Singer Joe Jonas and his actress wife Sophie Turner are divorcing, CNN reported.
Jonas filed a petition for divorce in Miami-Dade County, Florida on Tuesday stating that his marriage with the “Game of Thrones” star is “irretrievably broken.”
Jonas, 34, and Turner, 27 first began dating in 2016 and were married in 2019. They have two daughters, 3-year-old Willa and 1-year-old D.J.
According to the filing, Jonas is seeking shared custody of their daughters. The petition also notes that he and Turner have a premarital agreement.
Jonas and Turner got engaged in 2017 and went on to have two weddings. The couple was first wed by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas in 2019 after they attended the Billboard Music Awards.
They then formally tied the knot at a lavish ceremony at Château de Tourneau in the south of France with “Game of Thrones” co-star Maise Williams serving as Turner’s Maid of Honor.
Rumors that the marriage was on the rocks erupted over the weekend, with People magazine reporting on Saturday that Jonas had hired a divorce lawyer.
The UK tabloid Daily Mail reported on Monday that Jonas was caught by a photographer in Miami without his wedding ring.
According to Page Six, a source said Turner’s party-girl lifestyle was in part behind the couple’s split as Jonas prefers to stay at home.
On Wednesday, Jonas and Turner released a joint statement on their respective Instagram accounts saying that the decision to end the marriage was “mutually decided” and amicable.
While the couple said there has been speculation as to why their marriage ended, they asserted that the decision was “united” and asked that everyone respect their privacy and the privacy of their children.
