James Comer Seeks Unredacted Emails From Biden’s VP Years

James Comer (R-Ky.), the House Oversight Committee chairman, has asked NARA for additional emails and records relating to Hunter Biden and his business connections when President Biden was vice president.

Reports show Comer requested that the National Archives provide the full text of an email chain that discussed Hunter Biden, President Biden’s brother James, and the two brothers’ business connections abroad. The committee also wants any executive calendars made for Biden when he was the vice president, as well as all communications from particular former Biden aides discussing Hunter or James Biden, and all emails inside the Executive Office of the President referencing different colleagues of Hunter Biden.

The letter is an extension of the committee’s previous inquiries to the National Archives. Comer had previously asked for uncensored copies of another batch of emails produced by the National Archives, focusing on messages in which Biden used an alias, apparently typical practice amongst high-ranking government employees.

Comer cited specific emails from December 2015 in which Kate Bedingfield, a former Biden spokesperson, and Hunter Biden’s business partner Eric Schwerin discussed how to react to a latest York Times piece as the basis for the latest request.

Given that former Hunter Biden business colleague Devon Archer testified that Hunter Biden had called D.C. that same day to attempt to alleviate pressure on Ukrainian gas firm Burisma, Comer found the timing of the communications involving Bedingfield and Schwerin concerning.

Bedingfield and Schwerin were responding to an article in the New York Times that questioned whether Hunter Biden’s presence on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company owned by Mykola Zlochevsky, who had assets frozen in London due to an investigation into money laundering. It undermined then-Vice President Biden’s message about fighting corruption in Ukraine.

Comer asked for a reply before September 20th.

A report shows Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the speaker of the House of Representatives, has indicated that he would be requesting an impeachment investigation against President Joe Biden.

McCarthy is responding to a likely motion for his removal from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

McCarthy has previously stated his desire to have the whole House vote on an impeachment probe over the summer holiday. McCarthy has decided to use the ‘Pelosi precedent’ of the impeachment probe.
