In an opinion piece for the Washington Post, disgraced outgoing President Joe Biden once again tries to terrify Americans about the incoming Trump administration.
At A Glance:
- President Joe Biden tries to terrify Americans into believing that democracy is under threat.
- The president publishes opinion piece in Washington Post about “January 6 riots”
- The article is almost certainly not a Biden original, but something written by his staffers
- Trump is just days away from returning to the White House
Four years after protesters took to the streets of Washington D.C. to demand election integrity, and after police officers opened the doors of the Capitol building and encouraged protesters to come inside, President Joe Biden is once again trying to scare Americans into ditching their support for President Donald Trump.
In an opinion piece published in the Washington Post, President Biden brags about Congress gathering to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election – seemingly walking back his party’s claims that Trump is as bad as Hitler. If Trump is Hitler, why would Biden be so keen to brag about the easy, painless, and peaceful transfer of power? Make it make sense!
“On this Jan. 6, order will be called. Clerks, staff and members of Congress will gather to certify the results of a free and fair presidential election and ensure a peaceful transfer of power. Capitol Police will stand guard over the citadel of our democracy,” Biden said.
He goes on to claim that “violent insurrections” attacked the Capitol in 2021 and “threatened the lives of elected officials” and “assaulted brave law enforcement officers.” And, no, there’s no mention of Ashley Babbitt.
He then offers some hope for America, telling readers that there will one day be Americans who don’t remember what happened in 2021. Really – it’s all very dramatic. Take a look at the piece yourself and see if you can bear reading more than two sentences.
And, no, in case you were wondering, this isn’t the first time he’s tried to make this a big thing. Last year, he gave a huge speech. Remember?
Legal Challenges and Democratic Norms
In a speech given on January 6 in 2024, Biden’s criticism extended beyond Trump’s actions on January 6. He highlighted how he believed Trump’s campaign focused on personal grievances and retribution rather than the country’s future. The president invoked the legacy of George Washington, particularly his willingness to relinquish power, as a stark contrast to Trump’s behavior following the 2020 election.
The president reflected on the polarized nature of how the January 6 attack is remembered, with differing opinions on Trump’s responsibility. Biden has consistently highlighted the dangers posed by the events of that day since his inauguration. On the second anniversary of the attack, he awarded civilian honors to those who defended the Capitol.
“Donald Trump’s campaign is about him. Not America. Not you. Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future,” President Joe Biden said.
Well, it turns out the American people didn’t agree with Joe Biden on this.
Biden’s appearance included supporters and young people who have been inspired to engage in politics due to the attack. The president emphasized the importance of accurately remembering January 6, describing it as a test of democracy that ultimately prevailed. He criticized Republicans who have abandoned their criticism of Trump since January 6, highlighting the ongoing political divide over the events of that day.
Well, in a week or so, we’ll not only be hearing less about the “January 6 riots,” but we may even see some of the people wrongly imprisoned freed.
