Recall Details

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of approximately 8,000 Vornado VH2 Whole Room Heaters due to potential electric shock and fire risks. These heaters, sold exclusively on Amazon between August and October 2024 for about $90, have been identified as having a potentially dangerous defect in their power cords.

“The power cord can partially detach from the heater enclosure, which can lead to cord damage over time, posing electric shock and fire hazards,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said.

The recall specifically targets heaters with the date codes “JUL24” and “AUG24” printed on the product label. These affected units can be identified by their off-white color, thermostatic control, two heat settings, and automatic or continuous fan operation. They also feature a “Vornado” logo with a distinctive red “V.”

Consumer Action Required

Although no incidents or injuries have been reported, the CPSC strongly advises owners of the recalled heaters to cease use immediately. Consumers should contact Vornado for instructions on how to receive a free replacement heater.

“Vornado toll-free at 844-205-7978 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, online at www.vornado.com/recalls/vh2 or www.vornado.com and click on ‘Product Recalls’ at the top of the webpage to check if your heater is included in the recall,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall, announced on January 16, 2025, carries the recall number 25-093. Vornado Air LLC, based in Andover, Kansas, manufactured these heaters in the United States.

Space Heater Safety Tips

This recall serves as a reminder of the potential hazards associated with space heaters. Common risks include accidental fires, carbon monoxide poisoning, and electric shock. To ensure safe use of space heaters, consumers should follow these guidelines:

1. Keep heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials such as curtains, furniture, and bedding.

2. Avoid using extension cords with space heaters, as they can overheat and cause fires.

3. Ensure proper ventilation in the room where the heater is being used.

4. Never leave space heaters unattended, especially when sleeping or leaving the house.

5. Regularly inspect the heater’s cord for any signs of wear or damage.

By following these safety precautions, consumers can help mitigate the risks associated with space heaters and ensure a warm, safe home environment during colder months.
