It seems like Florida produces some of the craziest stories in the country when it comes to crime, and today is no different. According to recent reports, a Florida woman has been arrested after she killed a sheriff’s deputy and wounded two others earlier in August. The woman, who is described as having conducted an “ambush” style attack on the police officers, was indicted on Monday.
48-year-old Julie Ann Sulpizo is facing charges of attempted first-degree premeditate murder of a law enforcement officer as well as conspiracy to commit premeditated murder in the first degree. Suplizo faces additional charges of battery on others and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Sheriff Peyton Grinnell confirmed that Sulpizo was taken into custody on Monday afternoon at the AdventHealth Waterman Hospital located in Tavares, where she was being held for treatment and observation. Sulpizo is presently in custody without bond.
28-year-old Master Deputy Sheriff Bradley Michael Link was tragically killed in the attack. The surviving officers were 41-year-old Master Deputy Sheriff Harold Howell and 28-year-old Deputy First Class Stefano Gargano.
The incident reportedly unfolded when deputies responded to a 911 call on Brookside Drive. During the call about the disturbance, the deputies were directed to a different home along the way – and as the deputies entered, they were immediately shot at by the suspect. Deputy Link was hit by a bullet and couldn’t escape the property.
According to Sheriff Grinnell, the woman identified on the call was Sulpizo, who was trespassing on people’s property and randomly assaulting people. The woman reportedly made religious comments as she attacked people at random. The person who made the 911 call described how Sulpizo accused them of being a sinner, claiming that she “knew what they did.”
