(RoyalPatriot.com )- Radical Vice President Kamala Harris is really struggling in terms of her approval ratings, being the least popular vice president in modern American history. That’s presumably why she’s pushing really hard for student loan debt forgiveness, which might finally give her some kind of popularity at least among younger American voters.
During an interview that aired on Sunday, Harris said that her party should be fighting harder for student loan forgiveness – even as a top former Obama administration economist pushes back o the idea.
CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan told Harris that far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes that it’s delusional for the Democrats to think they can win in 2022 without doing something about student debt and the filibuster, prompting Harris to announce that Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is “working on what we can do.”
She added that Democrats must relieve the “pressures of student loan debt.” And when Harris was pushed to say whether or not student loan forgiveness should be implemented before the 2022 midterm elections, the vice president said that the party should continue to work on how they can “creatively” relieve the pressure students are feeling.
You can see the Face The Nation interview in which she made those claims here:
The idea, however, is not popular – even among Democrats.
Larry Summers, who served as the 8th Director of the National Economic Council between 2009 and 2010, under the Obama administration, pushed back on the idea and said that it is “highly problematic.” Summers, who was also the 71st United States Secretary of the Treasury between 1999 and 2001, said that now is a terrible time to implement student loan forgiveness when unemployment is “unusually low” and “household balance sheets are very strong for all income quintiles.”
“There is no special case for across the board relief now, unlike when it was put in place two years ago,” he said.
What we’ve learned in recent years, however, is that the opinions of moderate Democrats don’t matter to radicals like Harris.
