(RoyalPatriot.com )- Witnesses claim that former all-pro NFL player and NFL broadcaster Aqib Talib sparked the altercation that resulted in his brother shooting and killing a youth football coach in front of his 9-year-old son on the field.
Mike Hickmon, a youth football coach, was shot and killed, and Yaqub Talib, Aqib Talib’s brother, a Fox Sports commentator and Prime NFL announcer has been charged with murder. According to witness accounts and video evidence, Hickmon, the DEA Dragons coach and a former Division 1 player, sparked a battle with many other men, including both of the Talib brothers, and was shot and killed on the field in front of his 9-year-old son.
Although witnesses claim that Aqib Talib, the former all-pro NFL player and Super Bowl champion who has had previous run-ins with the law, began the tragic argument, Yaqub Talib shot Hickmon multiple times during the battle that was captured on film at the juvenile football scrimmage. Yaqub and Aqib Talib were at the scrimmage coaching a team of their own, the North Dallas United Bobcats, according to police testimony and local media sources.
One of the DEA Dragons coaches who were present during the incident said to nearby media that Aqib Talib went across the field, climbed on the Dragon’s bench, and got in the referee’s face. He said he was the one that threw the first punch.
In the video footage of the incident, seconds before his brother pulled out a gun and shot the coach multiple times, killing him on the field, Aqib Talib can be seen punching coach Mike Hickmon.
Aqib Talib was described as “extremely disturbed and devastated” in a statement released by his attorneys, and the incident was called an “unfortunate tragedy,” albeit no mention of his prominent role in the confrontation was made.
“Aqib Talib, who was present when the sad occurrence occurred, is devastated and inconsolable over the horrible loss of life. He wants to offer his condolences to the victim’s family as well as to everyone who saw this tragic event,“ the attorneys said.
Aqib Talib is not currently being investigated by the authorities in connection with the deadly brawl and is not the subject of any criminal charges.
Although there hasn’t been any clarification or clear video proof of what that aspect would be, his brother Yaqub’s attorney has asserted that the shooting may have had a self-defense component.
