(RoyalPatriot.com )- We’re sorry to break the news to you if you haven’t heard already, but legendary comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried suddenly passed away last week at the age of 67.
Gottfried, who many younger people know as a voice actor from the Aladdin movie – playing Iago the parrot – died following a long struggle with myotonic dystrophy type 2, which is a kind of muscular dystrophy.
Writing on Twitter, Gottfried’s family said that fans of his should keep laughing – as that’s what he would want.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor,” the announcement reads.
Gottfried was not just known for his comedy – which was politically incorrect, to say the least – but also because of his immediately recognizable voice.
Born in 1955, Gottfried started performing stand-up comedy at the age of 15. In 1980, he appeared on 12 episodes of Saturday Night Live, and eventually became a Hollywood actor, first appearing in Beverly Hills Cop II.
In the 1990s, Gottfried moved on to Look Who’s Talking Too and Highway to Hell before he landed the famous role in Aladdin in 1992.
We’re sure our readers will join us in praying for his family.
