The state of political affairs in the United States remains volatile and polarizing. Indeed, over the last eight years since the 2016 presidential election and the victory of the political outsider, businessman, and real estate and television star from New York City Donald Trump, the national political climate has deteriorated. Indeed, for several years, the mainstream media and politicians on both sides of the political aisle have fomented discontent amongst the masses by promoting increasingly hostile forms of political rhetoric. For years, Donald Trump has been demonized by many media pundits, celebrity figures, and political opponents, and many drastic and exaggerated comparisons have been made that have painted Trump as a vitriolic villain. With extreme rhetoric like this, it is no surprise that tensions have flared and tragedy almost struck on July 13th when Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt.
A deranged 20-year-old gunman climbed atop a building several hundred yards away from Trump as rallygoers listened to Trump begin his speech. When one officer approached the individual to investigate, the gunman pointed his firearm at the officer, who was unarmed at the time and in a vulnerable position. Then, the perpetrator fired at Trump several times, narrowly missing the former president and grazing his ear. Remarkably, Trump had turned his head and reacted so quickly that he somehow survived the attack, coming just a hair length from death. Whether it be luck or divine intervention, Trump somehow avoided the unthinkable. Three rallygoers, however, were not as fortunate; one has already perished from wounds suffered after being hit by stray bullets, and another two are in critical condition.
Reportedly, the ear wound that Trump suffered is still bleeding and may do so for several days. But the former president is in remarkable spirits, according to Doctor Ronny Jackson. The Donald has reportedly been cracking jokes about his close-call affair. The unprecedented event is frightening and indicates the serious national divide.
