DeSantis Slams “Weak” Immigration Bill

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has launched a scathing critique of a GOP-driven immigration bill, labeling it as “weak” and “destructive.” The controversial legislation, known as the “Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Migration Policy (TRUMP) Act,” has sparked a fierce debate within the state’s Republican party.

The Governor’s primary objection centers on a key provision of the bill that designates the Commissioner of Agriculture, rather than the Governor, as the primary coordinator with the federal government on illegal immigration matters. This shift in authority has raised concerns about the effectiveness of Florida’s immigration enforcement efforts.

What were they thinking?

DeSantis has not shied away from pointing fingers within his own party. He accused some Republicans of wanting to preserve illegal foreign labor for economic reasons.

“They do. It’s a corporatist thing,” DeSantis stated.

That’s the DeSantis we love to see!

“On this issue, you owe (voters) an explanation for your actions,” DeSantis said, challenging lawmakers to justify their support for the bill.

In response to the bill, DeSantis is now pushing for what he considers the strongest kind of immigration enforcement laws. His proposals include eliminating practices like “catch and release” and implementing a new verification system for remittances to deter illegal immigration.

DeSantis has since vetoed the bill.
