American model Chrissy Teigen is one of a handful of celebs who missed this year’s Met Gala, after revealing to fans via social media that she would not be in attendance due to a neck injury that required the model to wear a neck brace. On Monday, Teigen revealed to audiences that she injured her neck in an attempted handstand that had gone wrong.
Chrissy Teigen, now 38, has held a previous residency at the Met Gala, with this year being one of the first in many that she will not attend. In a joking fashion, Teigen took to Instagram to share a selfie of her in her new neck brace. She ironically captioned the photo with, “@ The Met!”. Teigen followed up with another neck brace selfie on the app explaining her injury, stating that she attempted to perform a handstand. These posts seemingly confirmed that she would not be attending the star-studded event.
The Met Gala is professionally known as The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition which is held on the first Monday of May every year at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The event, which invites celebrities and other high-profile guests, is regarded as fashion’s biggest night of the entire year.
The title of the 2024 Met Gala is Sleeping Beauties, while the main dress code theme is titled The Garden of Time. This year’s co-chair committee includes Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and the Met Gala director Vogue’s Anna Wintour. Honorary chair members of the event also included Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson and the CEO of Tik Tok Shou Zi Chew.
This year’s Met Gala event will showcase an array of 250 fashion items created by The Costume Institute’s permanent collection, which includes intricately designed items that are too fragile to be worn in the future. Those said pieces will be displayed this year with the help of AI and CGI for preservation.
