A California farmer is expressing his support for former President Donald Trump by cultivating a field to display the word TRUMP. The field is located in Kings County, and images of the enormous mile-long exhibit have gone viral online. Ralph Gilkey, owner of Gilkey Farm Inc., told reporters he and his son spent a day mapping the design digitally before measuring and outlining the five letters on their field. Gilkey explained that the display is a mile long and half a mile wide, with each letter measuring 900 feet in width.
Despite the farmers’ efforts, however, Mr. Trump’s chances of securing victory in the Golden State appear remote. Polling places Vice President Kamala Harris far in front of her Republican rival, with results giving her a lead of more than 20%. In a Capitol Weekly survey at the end of July, Harris polled 59% compared to Trump’s 35%.
While the Vice President is widely expected to maintain a significant lead in Deep Blue California, polls show she is edging ahead of Donald Trump in swing states and nationally. In surveys conducted between August 5 and 9, Harris leads by a collective 4% across Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
Additionally, a Financial Times poll placed Harris ahead of Trump on the economy for the first time. That survey revealed that 42% of voters trust Harris to run the US economy, compared to 41% who prefer Trump. Analysts say this could prove crucial as large percentages of voters consider the economy central to how they will cast their vote in November.
When asked detailed questions, poll responders have said they believe Harris is more intelligent than Trump, more honest, and more mentally stable. Independent voters are also warming to the Harris-Walz ticket in growing numbers. New figures show that 60% of independents are backing Harris, compared to 45% who supported President Biden. The change appears primarily driven by the public perception of Kamala Harris as a positive and upbeat candidate, compared to a more negative Donald Trump. The Harris team has embraced a “joyful” theme, and polls indicate that it may be having the desired effect.
