Brake Issues in Popular Models

Ford is recalling approximately 123,611 vehicles from the 2017–2018 model years, including the Ford F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator, due to a defect in the brake master cylinder. This issue can cause brake fluid to leak into the brake booster, potentially impairing braking and increasing crash risk. According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that the defect may significantly reduce braking effectiveness.

Dealers will inspect and replace the master cylinder free of charge. If leakage is detected, the brake booster will also be replaced at no cost to the owner. Economic Times reports that owner notifications will begin by April 28, 2025, and all affected customers will be contacted no later than May 26.

Engine Control Failures in New Explorer

In a separate safety campaign, Ford is recalling 24,655 units of the 2025 Ford Explorer due to a defect in the vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM). As detailed by Consumer Affairs, the PCM may reset while the vehicle is running, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly and may damage the parking system.

Ford will correct the issue by updating the software on affected vehicles at no cost to owners. The company advises Explorer drivers to schedule an appointment with their dealership immediately after receiving recall notification letters.

Power Window Compliance Violation

An additional 1,168 vehicles, including 2024 Ford Rangers and Lincoln Nautilus models, are being recalled for non-compliance with federal safety standards. These vehicles have power windows that may not automatically reverse when they detect an obstruction—posing a serious risk of injury.

The automaker said repairs for this issue will also be provided at no charge to vehicle owners. As noted by Economic Times, the recall underscores Ford’s broader effort to address a range of safety concerns proactively and transparently.

What Drivers Should Do

Vehicle owners should watch for mailed recall notifications and contact their local dealer as soon as possible. Ford customer service and the NHTSA are also available for further guidance.

The automaker stresses that while the fixes are free, timely response is critical to ensuring driver and passenger safety in these widely sold models.
