Joe Biden and his senior staff traveled to Joint Base Andrews on Thursday to address the dangers of seasonal hurricanes.
Around 1:15 p.m., Joe left the White House and arrived around 1:30 p.m.
When Joe arrived, he seemed weary. His mouth was agape. He lurched along, mumbling something, with a glassy-eyed stare. This happened at 1:30 p.m.
After a 15-minute flight, he was exhausted!
Given the lack of specific information, it would be pure speculation to accuse the president of being physically or mentally ill. Throughout history, similar questions have been made about many US presidents, notably by critics of their policies or during periods of political weakness.
Democrats questioned Richard Nixon’s mental health as the Watergate crisis engulfed him in 1974 and subsequently worried that Ronald Reagan was too elderly to be reelected president and perhaps not in great physical shape. He was 73 at the time, six years younger than Biden is now.
Republicans questioned if Franklin D. Roosevelt was too unwell and frail during the wartime “Big Three” sessions in Tehran in 1943 and Yalta in 1945. How was he to successfully negotiate with the Soviets?
Meanwhile, Biden’s challenges are sufficient to raise some eyebrows. According to NBC’s most recent study, the American people doubt the president’s competence, as Chuck Todd stated on “Meet the Press” last week. Biden’s recent memory lapses, temper outbursts, and outbursts (such as calling one Fox News reporter’s query “dumb” or referring to another reporter as a “stupid son of a bitch” while speaking into a microphone) might be construed as symptoms of probable cognitive difficulties.
Of course, no one has examined Vice President Biden. And many people agree with the so-called Goldwater rule, which the American Psychiatric Association issued in response to thousands of psychiatrists speculating during the 1964 election that then-Senator and presidential candidate Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.) was insane. The armchair diagnosis of a politician is both unfair and untrustworthy.
Some doctors speculated much too much about former President Trump’s supposed psychological illness throughout his tenure.
At the same time, many people agree with President Trump, who stated in a White House interview in July 2020 that everyone running for president should take a cognitive test (like he did) as part of a routine medical examination.
If President Biden has undergone such a test recently, it was not reported in his most recent medical report, released in November.
Goldwater Rule aside, it is tough to watch Biden deteriorating right before one’s eyes. It is not hard to see.
