While in Alaska last Monday to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Joe Biden claimed that he was at Ground Zero “the next day.”
However, the president’s claim is false.
Then-Senator Joe Biden did not visit Ground Zero until nine days after the 9/11 attack.
The president’s lie was so egregious that even fact-checking sites like Politifact and Snopes, which ordinarily turn a blind eye to Biden’s lies, called him out for it.
CNN’s fact-checker Daniel Dale, who has avoided fact-checking this president, also fact-checked Biden’s 9/11 lie.
In his speech last Monday, Biden claimed that he remembered “standing there the next day.” He said that looking at the ruins of the World Trade Center made him feel as if he was “looking through the gates of hell.”
However, the “next day” after the 9/11 attack, Joe Biden was in the Senate chamber where he spoke in favor of a resolution condemning the terrorist attacks.
It wasn’t until September 20, 2021, that Joe Biden, along with a delegation of 37 other US senators, traveled from Washington DC to New York City by train to tour Ground Zero.
Interestingly, in his remarks last week, Biden also appeared to plagiarize the “gates of hell” line from Hillary Clinton, who did go to Ground Zero “the next day.”
To mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in 2021, “CBS Mornings” interviewed Mrs. Clinton about her experience circling Ground Zero in a helicopter the day after the attack. Mrs. Clinton told “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Kokoupil that she couldn’t imagine “anything that looked more like the gates of hell.”
When asked to respond to Biden’s false claim, the White House confirmed that the president did not tour Ground Zero until nine days after the attack when he traveled there “as part of a bipartisan delegation from the Senate,” according to CNN.
