Polls show that President Biden is failing to maintain support among Black and Latino voters. This could give former President Donald Trump a great chance to steal longtime dependable Democrats in November.
Trump and other Republicans are encouraged by the fact that they are making Biden spend time and money on usually protected territory.
But the Biden team is fighting back against the persistent idea that Black and Latino people are leaving the party. The president’s team says it has a plan to keep these people on board and give him the upper hand in November.
On Wednesday, President Biden will try to get Latino voters to support his economic and immigration policies in Nevada, a critical swing state. He is doing this to jump-start his campaign after three weeks of uncertainty in the presidential race. He is going to talk at the annual meeting of UnidosUS, a Latino civil rights and advocacy group, and then he will make a few short comments and greet supporters at a campaign event. He will also talk to Univision on Wednesday, which is the second day of a two-day trip through Nevada.
Biden will try to change the narrative about immigration, the economy, and the fact that his support among Latinos is flagging.
Polls have shown these to be three of his biggest problems as president. He said Wednesday morning that undocumented wives of U.S. citizens would be able to apply for a new program that would protect them from removal starting August 19.
It could keep 500,000 people from being deported, give them a way to become citizens and allow them to work freely in the U.S.
Biden’s been struggling to find a balance on immigration, an issue that has been muddled, at best, with the unpopular president.
