President Joe Biden reached a new low this week — at least in terms of his overall approval rating.
A new ABC News poll reported that Biden’s approval rating sank to the lowest mark of any president over the last 15 years.
The national survey, conducted by Langer Research Associates on behalf of ABC News, showed that the president’s approval rating is only 31% right now.
These results put Biden in a position that none of his three previous predecessors were in.
ABC News reported that former President Donald Trump’s lowest approval rating was 36% while he was in the White House. You’d have to go all the way back to the administration of former President George W. Bush to find an approval rating this low.
Drilling down deeper into the results, 58% of people who responded to the poll disapprove of the job that Biden is doing in the White House. Only 18% of respondents said they approved of how the president is handling the huge surge of migration at the country’s southern border with Mexico.
That is a particularly stark result, considering his approval rating in regard to immigration was twice that mark less than a year ago.
ABC News further pointed out that Biden’s approval rating on immigration is the lowest it’s ever recorded. It has asked a similar question about immigration, and how people think about the current president handling it, since they first started conducting this poll back in January of 2004.
It’s not just immigration where people think Biden is failing, though.
In terms of the economy, only 13% of respondents said they believe they’re better off financially now than they were when Biden first entered the White House in January of 2021.
The survey revealed that 43% of people said they’re not as well off now, while 41% said they were in about the same financial position now as they were when Biden took office.
That’s a far cry from how people felt about Trump during the middle of his presidency. In fact, only 13% of people then said they weren’t as well off at that point as when Trump first took office.
What’s more, 31% of people who responded to this most recent poll said they approved of how Biden is dealing with the economy, compared to a whopping 56% who said they disapprove of his job.
In terms of foreign relations, 26% of respondents said they approved of how Biden is handling the war between Israel and Hamas, compared to 48% who said they disapproved of how he was handling it.
ABC News did point out, though, that 25% of people who participated in the poll said they didn’t have an opinion about the issue one way or the other.
The results of this poll should scare Biden and Democrats, as we’re quickly approaching the 2024 election. It could be too late for the president to turn it around enough to get him reelected.
