The father of Barcelona soccer player Lamine Yamal was reportedly stabbed on Wednesday by assailants in a parking lot. Spanish media outlets reported that the father of 17-year-old soccer player Lamine Yamal was attacked by a group of men with whom he had engaged in conversation earlier that day.
Catalan police officers confirmed that three people were arrested in the wake of the attack, and a fourth person believed to have been involved was also detained the following day. The victim was transported to a Barcelona hospital, where he is said to be in a stable but serious condition.
Where Did the Assault Take Place?
While we don’t yet have all the details, authorities confirmed that the attack took place in Rocafona, a neighborhood in Catalonia, Spain, where the soccer player grew up. The full details surrounding the attack are still unknown, but authorities did say that earlier in the day, the victim appeared to argue with a group of people while he was out walking his dog.
According to El Pais, a Spanish newspaper, the man was then approached by the same groupof people later in the day in a parking lot. The alleged attackers than reportedly stabbed him “multiple times.”
Spanish media reports suggest that he is expected to remain in hospital for several days, where he will remain under observation, before being sent home.
Video footage of the alleged attackers was shared on social media, including the immediate aftermath when local authorities got involved.
“Mounir Nasraoui, father of Barcelona player Lamine Yamal, was stabbed in a parking lot in Mataró. He was taken to Can Ruti hospital in serious condition,” one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote on August 14.
“The investigation indicates that the attack occurred after an argument with other North Africans, recorded on video, which led to the stabbing.”
The video footage shows police officers detaining one man, and social media commenters underneath the video speculated that the attackers may have been migrants or illegal aliens from North Africa.
